10 School mascot and School history When UCR first opened it didn’t have a Mascot. They had a total of 67 nicknames for the Mascot. they brought down to only 6 nicknames and out of those Cubs was the most popular nickname of the 6. Then the name was changed to Hylanders by freshman coed Donna Lewis. Later the name was changed to the current spelling and won easily. The colors are Blue and Gold. The colors were selected for the university by a committee of students at what is now UCBerkeley in June 1873.

12 Programs known for  UCR is one of 10 universities within the prestigious University of California system, and the only UC located in Inland Southern California. Widely recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse research universities in the nation, UCR's current enrollment is over 19,000 students, with a goal of 21,000 students by 2020. The campus is in the midst of a tremendous growth spurt with new and remodeled facilities coming on-line on a regular basis.

13 Athletics program Sport Clubs UCR sport clubs are an exciting alternative to intramural sports and offer a way of getting involved in a fun and competitive environment. Rugby, soccer, Karate, Kendo and Tae Kwon Do clubs compete against other college teams, including UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Lutheran, Whittier College and Loyola Marymount All participants are welcome and membership fees are required for uniforms, association fees and other equipment. 14 Arts program  The Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts is the premier arts outreach program at the University of California, Riverside.  Each year, the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts provides fellowships to exceptional UC Riverside undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and visiting guest artists to conduct arts-related presentations, performances, and workshops in Riverside County schools, residential facilities for elderly care and community centers. Participating departments include Art, Creative Writing, Dance, History of Art, Music, and Theatre, as well as the Sweeney Art Gallery and the UCR/California Museum of Photography.  Since its inception at UC Riverside in 1996, the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts continues to follow its mission and goals of integrating the arts within the broader community. UC Riverside remains committed to the Program's target constituents, and continues to avail itself of the excellent faculty and student resources in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
