Talks negatively about ‘they’ – people who have opinions like Mr Birling to make audience want to behave differently Use of first person pronoun ‘I’ to make audience feel that the speaker is sincere (is this ‘I’ the inspector or is this Priestley’s voice coming through?) The rhythm of the speech and where pauses are can make some phrases more forceful and memorable. It’s a speech rather than a conversation.
