Existing standards may be able to provide parts of the envisioned PAC services, but no single standard provides infrastructureless peer-aware communications with fully distributed coordination. PAC features include: discovery for peer information without association, discovery signaling rate typically greater than 100 kbps, discovery of the number of devices in the network, scalable data transmission rates, typically up to 10 Mbps, group communications with simultaneous membership in multiple groups, typically up to 10, relative positioning, multihop relay, security, and operational in selected globally available unlicensed/licensed bands below 11 GHz capable of supporting these requirements. Agreed description on common mode: Common mode (e.g., for discovery and communication) shall be supported for interoperability. Common mode used in different frequency bands needs not necessarily be the same. Source : 15-13-0124-01-0008-discussion-and-conclusion-of-conference-call-on- february19.ppt Slide 4

5 doc.: IEEE 802.15-13-0182-00-0008 Submission March 2013 Tae-Joon Park, etc. Common discovery mode in not common? - interoperability issues in PAC Problem : –It may not provide peer-aware communications between PAC devices in different frequency bands. Common modes used in different frequency bands may not necessarily be the same? A common discovery mode may not common in PAC. Solution : A common discovery mode independent to communication modes should be supported. –PAC with multi-PHY can provide peer-aware communications regardless of frequency bands. Slide 5

6 doc.: IEEE 802.15-13-0182-00-0008 Submission March 2013 Tae-Joon Park, etc. Discussion Common mode for discovery should be unique in PAC to support interoperability –Optimized for peer-discovery Common mode for communication used in different frequency bands needs not necessarily be the same. 8 doc.: IEEE 802.15-13-0182-00-0008 Submission March 2013 Tae-Joon Park, etc. Common discovery mode Mainly for discovery function(not communication mode) Optimized to discovery mode requirements –Independent to communication mode technologies Should not be a big burden : additional PHY –Lower rate / lower power / smaller (gate) size / easier to implement / … Frequency bands : –Globally available unlicensed/licensed bands, below 11 GHz –Examples Unlicensed 2.4 GHz band : Globally available unlicensed band, Busy Unlicensed Sub 1 GHz band : Not depends on specific …, Quiet Coverage –Longer than communication modes Slide 8
