3 doc.: IEEE 802.15-12-0573-00-0008 Submission A Simple Scenario with IDs November 2012 Sunggeun Jin (ETRI)Slide 3 Assume there is a user, who wants to print out his document shown in his iPad. Now, what operations are needed for the printing service.

4 doc.: IEEE 802.15-12-0573-00-0008 Submission A Simple Scenario with IDs (cont.) November 2012 Sunggeun Jin (ETRI)Slide 4 The printer broadcasts its capability in air. The iPad receives the broadcast capability and recognizes what services can be provided. The iPad notify the person of the capability The person makes his decision to printer his document out The iPad sends the document to the printer, and then, the printer makes a copy.

5 doc.: IEEE 802.15-12-0573-00-0008 Submission What IDs? What IDs are used for the service –Device IDs for the iPad and the printer –Service ID for printing service –Peer ID? “peer” needs to be defined Definition of “Peer” –There are three different peers in the context of the discovery level. –In device discovery context  peer ID is “Device ID” –In service discovery context  peer ID is “Service ID” –In user discovery context  peer ID is “User ID” Do we need to consider “user ID”? 6 doc.: IEEE 802.15-12-0573-00-0008 Submission Another Scenario with User ID November 2012 Sunggeun Jin (ETRI)Slide 6 We can consider two device communicate directly providing users with a messenger service. The steps may be summarized as follows: 1) Two devices find each other. 2) These devices exchange their service capabilities. 3) One user may initiate a messenger service with his/her user ID 4) Authentication may be processed by an authentication server somewhere 5) Two users talk about something directly via direct communication.

7 doc.: IEEE 802.15-12-0573-00-0008 Submission What IDs? What IDs are used? –Two devices should find each other with their device ID. –Two devices should recognize the services with service IDs. –Two users should initiate/accept the messenger service with their user ID. ID Types –Device ID  used to find a device –Service ID  used to recognize what service is provided –User ID  used to validate correct user What IDs are necessary? –Both device ID and service ID may be required –Do the PAC devices support user ID? 8 doc.: IEEE 802.15-12-0573-00-0008 Submission Proposed Definitions Device ID –A unique ID to identify a device –e.g., MAC address Service ID –A unique ID to identify a service –For example, service ID may represent a service category such as messenger or printer. It does not necessarily indicate a specific service, i.e., MSN messenger or AOL messenger. November 2012 Sunggeun Jin (ETRI)Slide 8
