SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 TG8 PAC PAR review: Scope – This standard defines PHY and MAC mechanism for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN) Peer Aware Communications (PAC) optimized for peer to peer and infrastructureless communications with fully distributed coordination. PAC features include: Discovery for peer information without association Discovery signaling rate, typically 100 kbps The number of devices in the discovery Scalable data transmission rates, typically 10 Mbps Group communications with simultaneous membership in multiple groups, typically up to 10 Relative positioning Multi-hop relay Security Operational in selected globally available unlicensed/licensed bands below 11 GHz capable of supporting these requirements Slide 2

SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 Application – Social Networking Technical attributes – Discovery mechanism for peers in vicinity w/o association for fast/dynamic link set up Based on information of proximal profile, user ID, previous connection/log, etc – PHY design for sufficient number of peers to be hearable and low overhead for discovery signaling Joint utilization b/w discovery signaling and relative positioning could be a candidate to reduce consumed power with minimized overhead – Group communication based on registered/profiled users Reduce the time for user-paring and overhead for security Friends Food Truck Informing sales in vicinityLocal group chatting / messaging Slide 3

SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 Application - Advertisement Technical attributes – Peer discovery and relative positioning for peers who are approaching to advertisement device Signaling design to be noticeable at acceptable power level (relative distance) and transmission rate (statistical population degree) Broadcasting to whole users or selected advertising based on user information (e.g. pre- registered preference, age) Automatic advertisement or guide Slide 4

SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 Application - User-centric Service PAC link Technical attributes – Dynamic peer discovery and user-paring in aspect of each user’s envision For pure user-centric service, peer discovery and user paring can be applied per user’s aspect (e.g. in above left figure, whole users involved in same game don’t have to be paired at the same time but dynamically paired based on scenarios) – Multiple group communications and fast/dynamic group change Suitable grouping and seamless regrouping for different users and user-centric services Gaming / Personal DJ Slide 5

SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 Application - Consumer Electronics Technical attributes – Group communication based on registered/profiled information Automatic control/device sync-up of group devices according to action or request from one electronics (e.g. group delegator which has a role of triggering) Data transferring for content sharing without a complex management procedure Auto-control/device sync-up and easy content sharing Slide 6

SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 Application - Emergency Service & Alarm Technical attributes – Fast relative positioning for indicating emergency / bad traffic status and accident alarm Rather than power requirement issue, more than considering fast activity and accurate information (e.g. high power signaling with boosting, lowest MCS, dedicated resource) – Group communication to share the disaster or power down situation One or several group delegator can delegate the role of informing status within a group or devices in vicinity (any one can be or set some specific device with power supply) Disaster control and congestion/accident alarm service Slide 7

SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 Technical Attributes vs. Application Common Technical AttributesRelated applications Fast/dynamic peer discovery and paging mechanism - Based on membership, profiled user/ID, previous connection/log -Social networking -Advertisement -User-centric Service -Emergency service & alarm PHY signaling design for efficient discovery and user pairing - To support for number of users to be hearable with acceptable power / Tx rate level - To operate functionalities with minimized overhead - Social networking - Advertisement - User-centric Service - Emergency service & alarm Group communications without complex management procedure - Fast/dynamic grouping and regrouping based on various services and users - Group delegator with a role of informing and delegating for group-common information - Social networking - User-centric Service - Consumer electronics - Emergency service & alarm Relative-positioning - Joint utilization with peer discovery and user-paring signaling to reduce consumed power with minimized overhead - Accurate signaling design in some specific situation such as emergency/disaster - Social networking - Advertisement - Emergency service & alarm Slide 8

SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 Consideration on Operating Band Unlicensed band – New PHY/MAC design is possible but needs to compete with existing many other networks for medium access – Especially, it is difficult to guarantee the reliable transmission of some control/management signals with high priority (e.g. peer discovery, paging for user-paring, emergency/disaster alarm) Licensed band – By band sharing with other network, infrastructureless design is very difficult without any impact on scheduling of existing network – Without band sharing, a dedicated frequency band should be assigned (Big cost) Slide 9

SubmissionJinyoung Chun, LG Electronics May 2012doc.: IEEE 15-12-0246-00-0008 Consideration on Operating Band (cont’d) Needs for co-operation b/w unlicensed and licensed band – Co-operating band utilization may be required – To minimize the implementation complexity and cost, we could divide the band operation of each signal based on some criteria such as the priority of signal, traffic type, required overhead, latency issue, etc. For example, High priority is required but cause low overhead (e.g. peer discovery signal, paging signal for user-pairing, emergency/disaster alarm indication): Operating in License band with guaranteed time slots Low priority is required but need high overhead (e.g. data transmission): Operating in Unlicensed band with competition – Challenges In PAC aspect: Fast channel switching mechanism, signaling design to control transmission across two different type of bands In existing other network with infrastructure: Need to some reserved time slots for PAC communication with minimized resource overhead Slide 10
