3 Introduction Provide Access & Exposure to ICT in deprived communities across Egypt to have a positive impact on the Egyptian Community This project was inaugurated to very much serve this role We are witnessing a technological era, where the lack of IT knowledge is considered to be a major hindrance to human development

5 The Definition for MITC A mobile Computer lab At which training on basic and advanced IT skills is provided Where visitors are provided with access to the Internet

6 Objectives of the MITC To provide rural and remote communities across Egypt with access to Information and Communication Technology to promote human development Promoting the use of Computers and the Internet among members of the society Overcoming the problem of lack of IT infra structure and availability of PCs and Internet connections in rural society

7 MITC Equipment Power Generator UPS Computers (21 PC's for the caravan) (11 PC's for the bus) High speed internet connection via satelite LAN Overhead Projector Printer & Scanner Web camera

8 MITC Services & Content MITC serves as a mobile training platform for: Computer Skills Internet Skills Multimedia Production. Web Design and empowerment Computer aided illiteracy eradication programam Access to Kenana on line Access to Community Development portal Web caching of useful offline material

9 MITC Content Educational CDs Arabic Software Computer aided CD for Illiteracy Eradication Access to the Community Development Portal (www.kenanaonline.com)www.kenanaonline.com Access to e-library – (www.fekrzad.com) Web caching of useful offline material

10 The MITC Crew consists of : Two instructors Coordinator & technical assistant Driver MITC Crew

11 MITC Benefeciaries Students and teachers of primary,preparatory & secondary schools Community members at large (with equal access to men and women) Public sector employees

12 Rural and remote communities Areas not covered by IT clubs Areas of poor IT infra structure Areas with no IT infra structure MITC Targeted Areas

13 MITC Activities Stop at communities for periods that range from several days to several weeks focusing on : IT awareness campaigns ICT illiteracy eradication sessions Educational Programs Internet Browsing Specialized Material

14 MITC Operation Synchronization with local awareness campaigns Assesing the need for establishing an IT club in the area visited Providing an electronic classroom experience to remote communities Revisit previously visited areas to carry out updated training sessions

15 MITC Coverage Coverage of all areas in Egypt through: Two buses each containing 10 PCs Two trucks each containing 20 PCs (Feb. 2005)

16 MITC Event Preparation Before the visit Event Preparation and Project promoting During the visit Announce daily schedule and activities Continuous updating of logistical information Raising awarness concerning operation & safety Daily reports about participation, activities & technical issues At the end of the visit Informing people of nearby IT clubs for followup

17 MITC Actual Operation Date 5 th of February 2005 Location Roda village in Malawi (Minya Governorate) Participants (Male & Female) 1577 for two weeks (100 per day) Operation hours 8 hours daily
