2. The Catering Industry You could be a cook or a chef. You can be employed in: - Hotels, restaurants, pubs, fast-food chains - The armed forces - Factories, hospitals - Educational environments (schools, universities etc.)

3. Training You can do NVQ’s. (Working on the job and go to college.) For catering and Hospitality you usually do L2 or L3. If you join the Armed Forces they give you a high standard of training (acceptable when you leave.) You study Catering and Hospitality as a whole.

4. What it takes! You have to be: An organised person Committed and motivated Accepting of responsibility Flexible about long working hours Good at teamwork Calm when under pressure Good at marketing skills

5. Chefs There are many different types of chefs. -Kitchen Assistants- Prepare vegetables -Commis Chef- assistant/training junior chef -Section Chef- Certain parts (e.g. pastries) -Sous Chef- deputy -Maitre de cuisine (Head chef)- managing and cooking.

6. Caterers There are three types of catering:- -Contract catering- businesses who provide food in Hospitals, schools, sports centres etc. You can sometimes hire out businesses for private functions like weddings or big parties. -Small- scale cooking- working on a smaller scale (preparing quality food for a small number of people.) -Vegetarian and Organic catering- cooking vegetarian and organic food for ‘veggie’ people!

7. Pay After you are trained: Head chefs can get paid £25000+ Kitchen assistants can earn only just over the minimum wage. If you have some experience you could earn £18 000+
