3 Choices for Physical Activity Physical activity includes any form of movement whether purposeful or incidental. Can be involve working or playing Can be a healthful way to socialize

4 Physical Activity – 2 Types. Lifestyle Activities – forms of physical activity that are a normal part of your daily routine or recreation and that promote good health throughout a lifetime. –Benefits social and physical – dancing is an excellent aerobic activity

5 2 Main Types Cont. Sport Activities – these differs from lifestyle activities in that they usually involve competition and are guided by a set of rules –Individual sports- activities are skill-oriented activities that you can do by yourself. Considered a lifetime sport Become a daily part of ones routine Example: running, lifting, or gulf –Partner sports – activities that are carried out with a partner. Example: tennis, gulf, or racquetball –Nature sports – activities in which there is some interaction with one of the elements Example: surfing, rock climbing, or sailing

6 Choose Physical Activities Don’t limit yourself to one activity, cross- train, this will work different muscle groups. It also will reduce the chance of injury and boredom.

7 Skills-Related Fitness There are six basic measures of skills- related fitness Agility- this is the ability to control the body’s movements and to change the body’s position quickly. –Test: side shuttle Balance – This is the ability to remain upright either while standing still or moving –Test: body balance Coordination – ability to use two or more body parts together well, or to use the senses along with the body parts. –Test: stick toss and catch

8 Skills-Related Fitness Cont. Speed – ability to move a distance or complete a body movement in a short period of time. –Test: short sprint Reaction Time – rate of movement once a person realizes the need to move. –Test: yardstick drop Power – ability to use force with great speed. –Test: standing long jump
