INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY TRENDS for LANDSIDE OPERATIONS Airport Ground Transportation Association Spring Conference March 20, 2007

Some Interesting Metrics Technology Innovation Operational innovation Agenda

What is AVI? Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) uses wireless Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) communication technology to identify, monitor, track, and collect data on vehicle movements so you can effectively manage Customer parking and a variety of airside and landside vehicle - related activities.

Some Metrics on AVI Currently more than 65 airports in North America use AVI in single or multiple applications l Over 250,000 transponders l Over 1400 lanes of equipment That number will increase to 68 by mid- 07 The first system deployed was in 1989 AVI users cover a broad range; LAX to EAG AVI technology and applications continue to evolve l Low cost “sticker tags” l Mobil technology l Regional interoperability

New Trends in Tags New “sticker” type AVI tags Lower cost versus traditional “encased” tags l Under $12 in quantity l Enables “disposable” tags Similar performance to battery powered tags with some range and speed restrictions Over 4M units already in service, worldwide.

Dual Credential Systems

Dual Credential system Allows for two AVI transponders to be used in the same vehicle l Fixed transponder ID’s the vehicle l Hand-held transponder ID’s the driver Vehicle ID l Allows for vehicle-specific tracking and enforcement l Collects company/operator-based data Driver ID l Driver-based payment system support l Track driver certification/security

Mobil Operations Terminals Handled terminal for: l Enforcement- tag reads at remote locations l Mobile access to host software application l Remote enrollment Communications Options- l Wireless on-line connectivity l Periodic Synchronization with database from cradle Rugged construction

Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) Compatible with RFID technology- access control Ground Transportation application for Shuttle Tracking Airside application for alerts when a vehicle is in a restricted area

Regional Interoperability Leverages a regional Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system for multiple applications “One tag, many uses” concept: l Toll collection l Airport ground transportation and parking l Institutional and municipal parking Multi-protocol readers are the enabler Gaining acceptance in the US l Texas, Pennsylvania, No. California, Kansas already deployed l Florida, Illinois, So. California, Colorado among many areas moving to deployment in ‘07

Regional Resource Sharing Concept: airports in the same area or are part of the same authority share data/resources Shared Accounts Data l Allow vehicle/company account data to be shared between multiple systems l Update account/tag adds, changes and deletes electronically Shared service/support resources l Regional field service staff are “shared’ between airports based on need and system complexity l Allows for fewer FTE staff to provide necessary support to more than one airport – significant cost reduction

Summary AVI continues to evolve and be relevant to your operation Lots of tools available to get the job done Technology is only one aspect, but a key element The key is to match the technology to your business operations Keep It Simple
