Welcome to Unit 7’s Seminar: Peer Review Process Peer Review Process Revision Process Show and Tell

Final Revisions: Time to Get the Lead Out Revision Process Unity. Coherence. Coordination. Subordination. Fragments. Run-ons. Comma splices. Dangling participles. Misplaced modifiers. Ambiguous references. Parallel construction. Pronoun usage. Subject-verb agreement. Conciseness. Connotation. Denotation. Tone. Voice. Expletives. Nominalizations. Inappropriate jargon. Subjunctive mood. Commonly confused words. Punctuation. Mechanics.

Before and While you Read: Peer Review Process Find out what the writer is intending to do in the paper (purpose) and what the intended audience is. Find out what the writer wants from a reader at this stage. Read (or listen) to the entire draft before commenting.

How to Criticize Appropriately: Peer Review Process Be honest (but polite and constructive) in your response Don't argue with the author or with other respondents.

Release the hounds!! Show and Tell Take a minute or two to look over your nearly completed draft and come up with a section (several sentences) or an issue that you‘d like help from the class revising. Once you’ve found the particular section or the issue you’d like to share go ahead and type up an explanation for the class in a Word document so you can copy and paste it into the discussion when it’s your turn (this will make things run a little more quickly and smoothly). We’ll be hearing from everyone, so be sure to find some part of your work that needs help...

That’s all folks... In closing, I want to remind you again that I am here to assist you with any questions you have about the class. Feel free to contact me via email WJohnson3@kaplan.edu, or via AIM (ProfessorJKaplan) during office hours. Additionally, if necessary, we can arrange for a phone conference.
