3 Graduates are certified as archery coaches Coaches are responsible for – Physical training – Technical training – Tactical training Coaches must be able to address many aspects of the archer’s overall well-being, not just technique 3 Course Introduction

4 Necessary Traits for Coaches Coach Lee, the United States National Head Coach lists these as necessary traits for coaches Excellent people and communication skills A solid grounding in biomechanics, anatomy and physiology Clearly defined coaching philosophy A sound understanding of sports psychology Experience of failure The ability to coach at all levels Patience, persistence and optimism Honesty and credibility Sound judgment 4

10 Course Presentation Methods Lecture/discussion/peer coaching During course candidates draw upon their own experience to discuss and resolve questions Emphasis is on improving coaching performance Course emphasizes learn-by-doing with peer-coaching exercises Candidates are actively involved and must not be timid about offering input Non-threatening environment where candidates gain knowledge and graduate with clear understanding of the role of the coach 10
