38% of girls report being bullied online. 39% of social network users have been cyber bullied in some way 13% of teens who use social media (12-17) say they have had an experience on a social network that made them feel nervous about going to school the next day. Girls are more likely than boys to be victims or bully/victims.

Motivation Anger, Revenge, or Frustration For Entertainment To get laughs Boredom To torment others to boost one’s ego Mean girls do it to help bolster or remind people of their own social standing.

Educating the kids is the #1 way to prevent cyber bullying. Teaching them to respect others and to take a stand against bullying of all kinds helps too. There is no "one size fits all" when cyberbullying is concerned.

School’s Role Schools are often sued for exceeding their authority and violating the student's free speech right. They can educate the students on cyberethics and the law. Giving students a place to express what’s going on if they are being bullied in any way.

Parents Role Most children will avoid telling their parents about a cyber bullying incident fearing they will only make things worse. Some parents will overreact and some will underreact Be supportive Let the school know so the guidance counselor can keep an eye out for in-school bullying and for how your child is handling things.

Taylor receives a computer for her birthday. Taylor soon finds herself the victim of cyberbullying when she becomes a member of a social website. Students at school write horrid comments about her and she becomes afraid to face her friends. Taylor almost commits suicide by overdosing with pills
