5 Primary Sector The primary sector of the economy extracts or harvests products from the earth. Activities associated with the primary sector include agriculture mining, forestry, farming, grazing, hunting and gathering, fishing, and quarrying

6 Secondary Sector The secondary sector of the economy manufactures goods for customers Activities associated with the secondary sector include metal working, automobile production, textile production, chemical and engineering industries, energy utilities, engineering, breweries and bottlers, construction, and shipbuilding

7 Tertiary Sector The tertiary sector of the economy is the service industry. This sector provides services to the general population and to businesses. Activities associated with this sector include retail and wholesale, transportation and distribution, entertainment restaurants, clerical services, media, tourism, insurance, banking, healthcare, and law.

15 Task – Lets compete You have one minute to write a list of as many different business activities as you can that would be part of the Primary Sector Then….. You are going to do the same for secondary and tertiary Housepoints for the person with the longest list

16 Questions Think about these 3 industry sectors How could we measure the size of them? How do you think the relative size of these sectors compares from country to country? What factors contribute to the differences? Lets find out……..

You must include the following slides: Slide 1 – Basic info about your country (flag, population etc) Slide 2 – A chart to show industry sectors by GDP* Slide 3 – An outline of the Primary Sector in the country (include facts and images) Slide 4 – An outline of the Secondary Sector in the country (include key industries, facts and images) Slide 5 – An outline of the Tertiary Sector in the country (include facts, images, key industries) Slide 6 – Trends – How these sectors have changed over time
