On-going Risks to Technology Replacement Cycle –Need commitment for annual funding Technology Policies –Acceptable Use (AUP) for Faculty and Students –Compliance (IE: Electronic archiving) Scalability & Security of Infrastructure –Need to make infrastructure more resilient –Constant need to evaluate inside and outside threats.

6. Replacement Cycle So what’s the issue? –There is no line item within the Technology Operating Budget to replace equipment or software! How do we address it? –Override? –Capital Funding? –Other?

7. Replacement Cycle Three groups of technology equipment and software are used within the schools we address when it comes to replacement cycle: 1. Computer Room Devices Servers, storage, security & backup devices and proactive monitoring tools. 2. Wiring Closet Devices Routers, switches and cabling. 3. Classroom Technologies Computers, Interactive White Boards, Projectors & AV Equipment, Administrative & Curriculum Software.

8. Technology Policies Acceptable Use –Guidelines for faculty and staff –Guidelines for students Supreme Court Ruling in effect as of December 1, 2006 –Archiving of all electronic communications –Backups may not be good enough –Need to start by reviewing our policies

9. Scalability & Security Scalability –Need to handle bursts of traffic –Use and implement proactive monitoring tools Security –Multi-platform solutions –Network Access Control (NAC) devices
