3 Course of Study Anatomy and Physiology Overview of Anatomy and Physiology Tissues Major body systems integumentary skeletal and muscular digestive urinary cardiovascular and respiratory reproductive and endocrine nervous Genetics

4 Lab Activities Dissections – cat – cow heart Identification of tissues – microscopic observation of various tissues Filtration of kidneys Blood Pressure

6 AND …… To differentiate between the 4 major tissue types Explain the structure and function of the urinary system

7 AND …. To describe the process of stabilizing blood sugar Able to trace blood through the heart

10 Materials Bring with you EVERY single day: Notebook - 3-ring binder with pockets Pen or pencil Colored pencils I will not issue textbooks, but will if you feel you need extra resource at home

11 I expect you to …. Treat each and every person with respect Zero tolerance for rude or disruptive behavior Classroom Etiquette Be on time Be prepared Have a positive attitude Participate in all classroom activities

13 Discipline Procedures 1 st offense verbal warning 2 nd offense written warning student/teacher conference 3 rd offense call or conference with parent involvement of administrator

14 Grading Procedures Point system Each assignment worth certain number of points Final grade = earned points ÷ total points Example: Jack accumulated 596 points out of 700 possible points. What is Jack’s grade for the 1 st 9 weeks?

15 What will you be graded on? Unit tests Weekly quizzes Notebook quizzes Homework/In-class assignments Projects AIDS awareness poster Power point research project on a disease and disorder Laboratory Exercises

16 Make-up Policy Your responsibility to get assignments when absent Have 1 week (from when you return to school) to make up all missed work Your responsibility to schedule time to make up missed tests Have 1 week (from when you return to school) to make up missed tests

17 Make-up Policy Continued If zeros have not been made up within 1 week, they remain permanent zeros absolutely, positively NO exceptions did I say absolutely, positively NO exceptions? Be accountable for missed work and assignments!!!!! Can only make up work if absence is EXCUSED!!

18 Make-up Policy Continued Absences If absent only the day before a test, will take it when you come back Will always get study guides 2 days in advance Tests always announced 4 to 5 days in advance For example …… Test scheduled for Friday Get study guide on Wednesday (so you know about test) Out Thursday Back to school on Friday, will take the test Do not ask, “Do I have to take this test today?” Answer will be, “Yes”.

19 If and when absent ….. Check my blog Updated throughout the week Will contain weekly schedule Can download and print study guides, worksheets and power points Encourage parents to check your teachers’ blogs

20 Cell Phones Rules for cell phones No texting during class Phone should not go off during class No watching videos or playing games during class If any of the above occur, I will take cell phone up until end of class Please, please don’t let cell phones be a class distraction!!!!
