Millinery shops were almost always owned by women. They would sell fabric that could be made into clothing. A milliner would also make things like shirts, aprons, caps, hats, muffs, and trim for gowns.  I am a milliner. Millinery shops were almost always owned by women. 3 Family Life  An American family life would be a mother, a father and their children. The man would run he house. Before the man ran the house, the woman did. An African American family would be a mother, a father, and their children. It was harder to have an African American family because of all the slavery and racism. Native American societies were matrilineal, and divided the work of home, field, and hunt along gender lines.

Family Life  European disease, displacement, and warfare decimated their societies. Traditional dress, language, and customs were eroded by exposure to Europeans.

Education  Kids were taught a trade, usually the one their fathers did, so they could continue the family business when their fathers retired. Often, kids would go to school and learn a trade.

Daily Life  Turkey had been raised domesticly for a while, so people usually ate that. Traveling was mostly done in the summer and winter because in the fall and spring, it would rain a lot and the roads would get muddy. All of the colonies had plenty of wood, so the houses were mainly made out of wood.

Climate  The middle colonies had a milder climate and better soil than the colonies in the north.
