3. A Little About Miss Burkholder! I went to Gwynedd Mercy Academy for High School. I attended Moravian College for a B.S. in Psychology and Elementary Certification. This is my 11th year teaching!  I taught fifth grade for two years on Navajo Reservation in Arizona.  I taught Fourth grade at a private school in Bucks County.  I taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and Fourth Grade here at Saucon Valley. I enjoy sports. I have coached track, cross country, swimming, and basketball. Most importantly I enjoy spending time with my four nieces and two nephews. I also enjoy traveling the United States

4. Schedule for our class 9:00 Encore 9:45 Math 10:45 IE/ Writing 11:45 Lunch /recess 12:30 Science /Social Studies 1:15 Language Arts 3:15 Dismissal

5. Homework Homework is given – daily even on weekends! Time is given in the morning for students to copy homework into their assignment books. They are responsible for delivering homework and picking up homework Please notify me if your child is struggling with the assignments Please make sure you sign there assignment book each night that they are reading 20 minutes

6. Language Arts Literature Groups- Authentic literature aligned to a common theme, but tailored to reading levels Vocabulary- Challenging & Enriched, Pulled from Literature H.O.T. – Students generate and discuss questions surrounding their groups literature.

7. Spelling Each Friday student will take a pretest which will determine their list each week. Thursday students will be assessed on their weekly spelling list and homework is due Thursdays Some students will qualify for “Super Challenge” they will be tested on spelling and the meaning of each word. “Super Challenge” homework is due Wed.

8. Mathematics Program- Everyday Math (New Common Core Edition) Taught using cooperative groups Students will take a pretest and post- tests to determine skills that each kids need We will be moving at a quicker pace We will be stressing that students are able to “Explain your answer and why”

9. Science Taught second and third quarters Will be switching every 27 days. Students will have either Miss Burkholder, Mrs. Ruyak, and Mrs. Tavormina THEMES: Sound, Electricity, Earth materials, Earth Movement

10. Communication Please look for the weekly email/ newsletter. It will also be posted on my website I will be available to you through phone calls, notes, email and conferences. Should you like to meet with me concerning your child we can arrange a mutually agreeable time. Please look for you child’s Wednesday envelope for other announcements.
