Objectives & Learning Outcomes To enable students to undertake a relatively major research work related to the course. To enable students to write the research work in an effective manner. To provide problem solving skill to students. To enable students to make the peak presentation befitting the diploma qualification they are going to gain. To enable students have a holistic view of the overall management and operations functions of the organizations and provide future working tools for work success.

Format Individual work Scores Attendance 5% Report 55% Presentation 40% Total 100% Classes – 1 st month of Sem Deadlines Chapter 1 draft 20 Dec 2011 Chapter 2 draft 10 Jan 2012 Chapter 3 draft 31 Jan 2012 Chapter 4 draft 21 Feb 2012 Chapter 5 draft 28 Feb 2012 Note 1 mark off for each day late. All soft copy Presentation 8 & 9 Mar 2012 Final submission 16 Mar 2012.

Topic Do a research and write a flight plan for a long-haul, wide- body commercial flight departing from KLIA to a foreign destination. The distance of the flight must be not less than 5000 nautical miles. Choose an airport destination, appropriate aircraft and routes for the flight. See a airline captain if you need be. Your flight plan must be justifiable

Chapter 1 1 Destination Airport name, code, Runways length and azimuth Letdowns Nav aids Radio frequencies Approach procedures Airport charts Alternate airports (also as above) ETD and ETA.

Chapter 2 2 Aircraft Tp Be Flown. Model, brand, made Max Pax capacity Max Cargo load capacity Weight – maximum all up weight, ramp weight, landing weight Max Fuel capacity Fuel consumption (per hour) Speed – landing, cruising, climbing, descending, maximum. stalling Endurance. Range Ceiling height Avionic systems (all), Engines – type, model, brand, hp /thrust,

Chapter 3 3 Routes Airways codes from KLIA Nav aids for each sector Radio frequencies for each sector ATC call signs & radio frequencies for each sector Flight elevation for each sector Headings of airways for each sector Distance and Flight time for each sector ETA for each airways Total flight time Airways charts for every sector Relavent air laws

Chapter 4 Proposed Flight Aircraft Configuration (10 pages) Fuel carried and reserve justification Range and endurance Pax carried - Nos Cargo carried – baggage, water, food etc Ramp weight Takeoff weight V1, V2 Weight & balance (C of G); load & trim sheet Landing weight.

Chapter 4 4 Weather and flight monitoring Forecasted weather – thunderstorm, icing Wind Visibility Temperature Air Pressure Fuel status – balance, reserve for diversion Flight headings and height Reporting ATC positions All for each sectors

Chapter 5 5. Conclusion Overall summary of activities Copy of the duly filled flight plan form.

Common Mistakes Lack of narrative just cut and paste work for all chapters. Lack of info for proposed runway in use for landing at destination airport. Lack of fuel consumption for aircraft. Lack of heading (degree), tracks, height and speed information for each sector for Chapter 3. Chapter 4, no justification for V1 and V2 and fuel carried on board. No mention about passengers or cargo to be carried on board for Chapter 4. Also lack of radio frequencies for sectors. En-route weather not clear. Some weather were for ground weather only. Should be for the flight level weather the whole route. Weather for destination airport missing.
