2 Mitch Albom: The Student Mitch was born on May 23, 1958 in Passaic, New Jersey. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1979 at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, majoring in sociology. Tuesdays with Morrie is the chronicle of Mitch’s time spent with his beloved professor Morrie Schwartz. As a symbol of his love, Mitch wrote the book to help pay Morrie’s medical bills.

3 Morrie Schwartz: The Professor Morris "Morrie" S. Schwartz: December 20, 1916 – November 4, 1995 Morrie was a sociology professor at Brandeis University and an author. In August 1994, Morrie was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. –ALS is a neurological condition characterized by rapidly progressive weakness, muscle atrophy and fasciculation's, muscle spasticity, difficulty speaking (dysarthria), difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), and difficulty breathing (dyspnea).

4 The Cirriculum A Professor’s Final Course: His Death “The last class of my old professor’s life took place once a week, in his home, by the window in his study where he could watch a small hibiscus plant shed it’s pink flowers. The class met on Tuesdays. No books were required. The subject was the meaning of life. It was taught from experience.”

5 The Lessons The First Tuesday: We talk about the World. –“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” The Second Tuesday: We talk about the Feeling Sorry for Yourself. –“It’s horrible to watch my body slowly wilt away to nothing. But it’s also wonderful because of all the time I get to say good-bye.” The Third Tuesday: We talk about Regrets. –“I want to remember your voice, even after your gone.”

6 The Lessons The Fourth Tuesday: We talk about Death. –Everybody knows that their going to die, but nobody believes it.” The Fifth Tuesday: We talk about Family. –“Without love, we are birds with broken wings.” The Sixth Tuesday: We Talk About Emotions. –“When you learn how to die, you learn how to live.” The Seventh Tuesday: We Talk About the Fear of Aging. –“Embrace Aging, you grow, you learn more.”

7 The Lessons The Eighth Tuesday: We talk about Money. –“We put our values in the wrong things, and it leads us to very disillusioned lives.” The Ninth Tuesday: We talk about How Love Goes On. –“A Teacher to the Last” The Tenth Tuesday: We talk about Marriage. –“Love each other or perish.”

8 The Lessons The Eleventh Tuesday: We talk about our Culture. –“People are only mean when threatened, and that is what our culture does. Jobs, the economy, they threaten us.” The Twelfth Tuesday: We talk about Forgiveness. –“Forgive yourself before you die. Then forgive others.” The Thirteenth Tuesday: We talk about the Perfect Day. –“Death ends a life, not a relationship.”

9 The Fourteenth Tuesday: We Say Goodbye.

10 Audience Anyone who may be dealing with a terminal illness, either personally or with someone close to their heart. Anyone who is going through a difficult time in their life. This book is very inspirational and moving. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
