Long before settlers came to the East Coast of the United States, the area was inhabited by many Native American tribes.
Our national holiday really stems from the feast held in the autumn of 1621 by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag to celebrate the colony's first successful harvest.
The first thanksgiving was in 1621.
Today, Americans gather for a day of feasting.
