Word Inside under the red line you will write the definition.
Use the top half of the page to write facts and draw a picture. Use the bottom half to answer any question you are given or write a short story and I do mean short.

A pure chemical substance consisting of one type of atom.
Element A pure chemical substance consisting of one type of atom.

Periodic Table A table that displays chemical elements organized by selected properties of their atomic structures.

Pure substance A kind of matter that cannot be separated into other kinds of matter by any physical or chemical process. Pure gold 

Chemical Symbols A one or two letter code for a chemical element. Only the first letter is capitalized

Compounds A chemical substance consisting of two or more different chemical elements

Precipitate The formation of a solid in a solution or inside another solid during a chemical reaction. A yellow solid forming 

Metal A chemical element that is a good conductor of electricity and heat. Metals are malleable and have luster. Iron cooking pan 

Nonmetal A chemical element that is not a good conductor of heat and electricity. Nonmetals are brittle and dull.

Metalloid A chemical element that can have properties (characteristics) of metals and nonmetals.

Insulator A substance that resists the flow of electric current and heat. A thermos keeps coffee hot

Brittle Breaks easy.

Minerals Substances found in the Earth that are formed through natural chemical processes.

Luster A substance that reflects light or shines.

Mohs Hardness Scale The method of comparing hardness by seeing which minerals can scratch others How does knowing the hardness of a mineral help us determine how you use that mineral?

Streak The color of the powder a mineral produces when it is dragged across an unweathered surface. Is the streak a mineral leaves behind always the same color as the mineral?

Ductility The ability of a substance to be stretched into wire.

Malleability The ability of a substance to be hammered or shaped into thin sheets.

Conductivity The ability of a substance to conduct heat or electricity.

Irregular shaped object
An object that cannot be described by its number of sides. Ex. Natural rocks are irregularly shaped.
