Ryan A’s Mineral Research By: Ryan A

 My question originally was: How does mineral powder in the air effect peoples health in different locations around the globe (such as near volcanoes or people that demolish buildings in cites for a living) but I felt it was too specific so I changed it. My new question is how do minerals/ mineral powders in the affect peoples health? My question’s changes

 My final objective of this project was to answer:  How can minerals/ mineral powder in the air effect peoples health in different locations?  How dangerous they can be if inhaled?  Can they be dangerous if only touched by skin? Objective

 It can affect people in many ways.  Major effects would include;  Several lung diseases  Many types of cancer  Can damage skin if it makes direct contact  Blindness if a lot gets in your eyes How do minerals affect peoples health?

 In 2010 71,000 exposures to various mineral formulations were reported to poison control centers, which caused 15 major reactions but no one reported died.  An Global Affect

 Even though it is actually pretty difficult for an individual to buy or sell it, lots of people suffer from illnesses related to mercury.  Due to the health effects of mercury exposure, industrial and commercial uses are regulated in lots of countries.  Case control studies have shown effects such as tremors, impaired cognitive skills, and sleep disturbance in people who work with exposure to mercury vapor.  Small exposure to mercury vapor has been shown to result in profound central nervous system effects, including hallucinations, suicidal tendency.  With continuing exposure, a tremor develops and may escalate to violent muscular spasms. Tremor initially involves the hands and later spreads to the eyelids, lips, and the tongue. Long-term, minor exposure has been associated with more subtle symptoms including fatigue, irritability, loss of memory, vivid dreams and depression  You can also get mercury poisoning if you have a cheap thermometer in your mouth when when you're sick and it leaks liquid mercury out in your mouth Mercury

 Your body needs zinc every day in just the right amount, because too much can be as harmful and having too little can be bad. Your body has no way to store zinc, so it depends on a getting it through your diet. Zinc is important for a lot of function in your system including:  Strong immunity  Important component of the enzymes involved in tissue remodeling and prevention of cancer  Maintenance of your mood, mental clarity and restorative sleep  Prostate and intestinal health  Senses of taste and smell Zinc

 Lead poisoning is a serious and sometimes fatal condition. It occurs when lead builds up in the body. Lead is highly toxic metal and a strong poison. It is found in lead-based paints, including paint on old toys or buildings.  It can be in:  art supplies  contaminated dust  gasoline products (no longer in the US and Canada)  Lead poisoning usually occurs over a few months or years. Poisoning can cause severe mental and physical impairment. Younger kids are more exposed to lead poisoning. Lead

 According to some sources petroleum products will drive disease deeper into the body when used. That is why it should never come in contact with living tissue.  Petroleum can be found in Tires, Diesel fuel, motor oil, ink, and floor wax Can they be dangerous if they come in contact with skin?

 Hypervitaminosis is a major condition of abnormally high storage levels of vitamins, which can lead to toxic symptoms. The medical names of the different conditions are derived from the vitamin involved: an excess of vitamin A, for example, is called hypervitaminosis A  Generally, toxic levels of vitamins/minerals are achieved through high amounts taken in and not from dietary sources. Toxicities of fat-soluble vitamins can also be caused by a large intake of highly fortified foods, but foods rarely deliver these severe levels of fat-soluble vitamins. Major disease from minerals
