2 Research Administration Learning Program  Vision: The University of Washington Research Administration Learning program cultivates superior knowledge acquisition and competency, strong personal integrity and ethical values, and programmatic excellence in the conduct of research.  Mission: Create a campus-wide learning program and portfolio that will provide training for central and campus administrators who support and facilitate the university research enterprise.

5 RAPTURE Work Groups  Work Groups formed for each course  Membership based on course topic  Subject matter experts from campus & central offices  Meet every other week  Up to 2 work groups preparing courses concurrently  Phased development process  6 courses in 2010  Additional courses in 2011

6 Current Program Strategy  Foundational courses – the trunk  Provides a basic understanding cradle to grave of research administration  New employees would be recommended to take these courses in a suggested order  Specialty tracks – the branches  Sponsor systems  SAGE Suite  Fiscal  Leadership & Management  Global

7 Synergistic & Collaborative Approach  Full lifecycle represented  Business and system training integrated  Basic, intermediate, advanced levels  Re-examine all current courses  Fundamentals of Grant & Contract Management (POD)  Coordinate scheduling of courses, for example:  How to Prepare a Basic Budget & SAGE Budget

How to Prepare a Basic Budget  Direct result of June 2009 campus survey on training needs  Developed Spring 2010  10 Classes taught (April –June)  125 people registered, 87 attended  New classes to be offered in the fall  Evaluation survey shows >95% positive feedback  Met training needs, relevant to job, improved knowledge, would recommend course to others

Subcontract Monitoring Guidelines  Currently in final development  Companion course to the SC Administration class taught by Mike Blackwell and Payables provided this spring  Guidelines, checklist and sample forms  Roles and responsibilities  How to set up a monitoring process  Good documentation Easy audit

Introduction to Sponsored Programs  Currently in final developed  Basic level course for anyone with responsibilities with sponsored programs  Lifecycle includes finding funding, preparing & submitting proposal, award process, manage award & spend money, billing, reporting and closing  Replaces the current Fundamentals of Grant & Contract Management

12 Next Course - Cost Share  Work group will be formed this summer  Basic level course for anyone with responsibilities with cost sharing  Cost share types  Cost share sources  Record keeping  Regulatory environment  Cost Share 102 will provide the “How to”
