Describe how the human body is organized. Explain homeostasis.

2 The levels of organization in the human body include:
Cells Tissues Organs Organ systems

3 Cells A cell is the smallest unit of life.

4 Tissues A tissue is a group of cells that come together to form a particular function.

5 Types of Tissues: 1. The tissue that lines the inside and outside of the body is epithelial tissue.

6 2. Tissue that provides support for the body and connects its parts is connective tissue.

7 3. Nerve impulses are transmitted throughout the body by nervous tissue.

8 4. Movements of the body are possible because of muscle tissue.

9 Organs A group of different types of tissues that work together to perform a single or several related functions is called an organ.

10 Organ Systems An organ system is a group of organs that perform closely related functions.

11 Homeostasis Homeostasis describes the ability of an organism to maintain a constant internal environment despite changes in external environments.
