2 Festival theme = IB Community Theme “Sharing Our Humanity” The fight against poverty Peacekeeping, conflict prevention, and combating terrorism Education for all Global infectious diseases Digital divide Natural disaster prevention and mitigation (High Noon” by J.F Rischard, 2002)

3 Festival Schedule Thursday, February 26 - Beijing schools arrive in Tianjin and go to homestays; chaperones/teachers dinner Friday, February 27 - Festival starts at 8:30 a.m. Welcome Address - Tianjin Experimental Prinicpal Guest speaker Group activities Break, lunch and dinner provided Day closes with performance by Tianjin Experimental

4 Festival Schedule Saturday, February 28 - Festival starts at 8:30 a.m. Guest speaker/guided group reflection on Day 1 experience Group activities Group presentations Break, lunch and snack provided Beijing students depart for home by 3:30 p.m.

5 What do schools need to do to prepare for the festival? Design an activity for 15 or more students. Designate one or more of your teachers to run the activity at the festival. Choose no more than 20 students to attend the festival. Get 2 or more of your teachers to chaperone your students. Get funding to attend festival (100RMB per person)

6 What kinds of activities do we need? Last year’s activities were: Voice of the Festival Rooftop Gardens Ideas to Action Drama Board Games

7 What kinds of activities do we need? Some ideas being considered for this year: Voice of the Festival Other activities repeated from last year? Cooking activity (poverty dinner?)? Documenting the disappearing hutong life (IST) Building a community in a tent in the gym (IST) Something from Global Issues Network

8 January 15 (Tianjin Experimental has Spring Festival holiday from January 25 - February 17) Student names/ages/genders submitted Chaperone names/genders/housing preference submitted Money remitted Activities submitted (including list of equipment and space needed) Deadlines
