2 Objective Energy is transferred to living things through the food they eat. Student knows examples of living things that are: producers, consumers, carnivores, herbivores, & omnivores. GLE: Students explain how plants & animals interact. Students understand how animals depend on plants for survival (food, shelter and oxygen).

4 Producer A living thing that makes its own food Mostly green plants Connection (like produce section of the grocery store)

5 Consumer Living things that eat food Examples of consumers are sharks, tigers, and people.

6 Three Types of Consumers Herbivore: plant eater Carnivore: meat eater Omnivore: eats all things

7 Prey Any animal that is hunted by others as food.

8 Predator A consumer that hunts other animals as food.

9 Food Chain The movement of energy from one type of living thing to another.
