The battle began on the night of May 25, 1863. Vicksburg lasted 47 days The battle ended on July 4,1863

3 Vicksburg during the Civil war

4 Casualties The Union’s causalities for the battle in siege of Vicksburg, were 4,835 Confederate casualties consisted of 32,697 during the siege of Vicksburg

5 Outcome Pemberton raised a white flag on the morning of July 3.
That afternoon Pemberton and Grant met and arranged terms of surrender. At 10 am the next day the confederate began to march out of Vicksburg as prisoners of war.

6 Significance in the Civil war
The victory in the battle of Vicksburg gave control of the Mississippi River to the Union. The Battle of Vicksburg effectively split the Confederate army in two.
