What are the basic types of plants? Nonvascular: Algae Algae Chlorophyta Chlorophyta Phaeophyta Phaeophyta Rhodophyta Rhodophyta Bryophyta Bryophyta Mosses Mosses Liverworts LiverwortsVascular: Ferns Ferns Gymnosperms Gymnosperms Angiosperms Angiosperms VASCULAR- Having vessels that transport fluids

ALGAE Simple plants with no … Simple plants with no … Roots Roots Stems Stems Leaves Leaves There are three types … There are three types … ChlorophytaPhaeophytaRhodophyta

Chlorophyta Algae that is the color GREEN Algae that is the color GREEN

Phaeophyta Algae that is the color BROWN Algae that is the color BROWN Phaeostrophion irregulare Analipus japonicus Nereocystis luetkeana

Rhodophyta Algae that is the color RED Algae that is the color RED Antithamnion plumula Delesseria sanguinea Porphyra perforata

Bryophyta 1. Plant division made up of nonvascular plants that live in moist places. 2. Examples include a) Moss- simple rootless plant with leaves arranged in a spiral around a leafy stem.

Bryophyta b) Liverworts – simple rootless plants with or without stems & leaves.

Bryophyta 3. Rhizoids – hairlike structures that hold bryophytes in the ground.

Vascular Plants Also called the Tracheophyta Also called the Tracheophyta Includes three main groups Includes three main groups Ferns Gymnosperms Angiosperms

FERNS Have large leaves that are divided into smaller parts that also look like miniature leaves (called fronds) Have large leaves that are divided into smaller parts that also look like miniature leaves (called fronds) FRONDS

FERNS Reproduce through spores (which are located underneath the leaves). Reproduce through spores (which are located underneath the leaves). Spore case

Gymnosperms 1. Have “male” and “female” cones that produce pollen and ovules 2. If pollination occurs, seeds are produced in the female cone that are not protected by a fruit. FEMALE MALE

Gymnosperms Examples: Examples: Giant Redwoods - the tallest trees Fir tree Pine tree ginkoe hemlock

Angiosperms Flowering plants Flowering plants
