7 Who do you think the man in the middle of this picture is? Why do you think he is pictured here?

8 The man in the middle is Thurgood Marshall. He was a lawyer and won a case in the Supreme Court that made segregation unconstitutional. The case was called Brown vs. Board of Education in 1954.

9 Years later, Thurgood Marshall wasthe first African-American justice of the Supreme Court appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
