1 Leadership through FCCLA Programs

2 FCCLA programs provide excellent opportunities for students to develop as leaders for families, careers, and communities.

3 Involvement in FCCLA National Programs places students in situations in which they: accept responsibility learn to plan, implement, and evaluate individual and group action build relationships communicate in a variety of ways with a range of audiences develop appreciation for diversity apply higher-order thinking and reasoning skills analyze and solve problems adapt to change.

4 FCCLA National Programs, tools, and focus areas include:

5 Helps young people build leadership through various national programs. It provides information, activities, and project ideas to help young people: learn about leadership recognize the lifelong benefits of leadership strength practice leadership through FCCLA involvement become strong leaders for families, careers, and communities.

6 Guides young people to link their options and skills for success in careers. Through individual, cooperative, and competitive activities, members complete projects that guide them to discover strengths, target career goals, and create a plan for achieving the lifestyle they desire. A unit within Career Connection that enhances students’ job skills and allows them to gain valuable on-site work experience.

7 Provides young people with opportunities to use what they have learned in Family and Consumer Sciences classes to benefit their community.

8 Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety helps put the brakes on impaired driving and traffic crashes. Through peer education, young people strive to save lives through sober driving, seat belt use, and safe driving habits. The goals of FACTS are to: discourage youth and adults from driving when under the influence of alcohol or other drugs increase the use of passenger restraints (seat belts, child safety seats, and booster seats) promote safe driving attitudes and habits among young people.

9 Helps youth gain a better understanding of how families function and learn skills to become better family members. The program helps to carry on the tradition of FCCLA as the only in-school Career and Technical Student Organization with family as its central focus.

10 Japanese Exchange allows students to experience another culture and develop independence while living with a Japanese host family. A unit of Families First, Healthy Relationships helps you gain the skills necessary to evaluate your current relationships, develop and maintain healthy relationships, and understand how to improve healthy ones or end unhealthy ones.

11 Is a peer education program that involves youth teaching other youth how to make, save, and spend money wisely. Its goals are to: sharpen young people’s skills in money management, consumerism, and financial planning provide youth an opportunity to teach others and develop financial literacy, communication, and leadership skills.

12 Helps students find and use their personal power. Members set their own goals, work to achieve them, and enjoy the results.

13 Students Taking On Prevention is a peer-to-peer outreach initiative that empowers young people to recognize, report, and reduce the potential for youth violence. It is an FCCLA national peer education program that provides young people with attitudes, skills, and resources to address youth violence prevention.

14 Helps young people learn to eat right, be fit, and make healthy choices. Its goals are to: help young people make informed, responsible decisions about their health provide youth opportunities to teach others and develop healthy lifestyles, as well as communi- cation and leadership skills.

15 Students Taking Action with Recognition Provides opportunities for students to earn recognition for proficiency and achievements in leadership and job-related skills. COMPETITIVE EVENTS—
