3 This first meeting of the year replaces the traditional early parents’ evening. We are pleased to inform you that all children have settled well; if not we’ll contact you, or catch you before or after school. 4 Year 5 topics  Wish You Were Here. Holidays topic on different locations around the world in preparation for our holiday in Conway.  Battlestations- Relationship between English, Welsh and Scots (Conway link)  The Locomotion. Victorian topic, lives of Victorian Children, Street Child inventions, famous Victorian people, Social reformers.  Ain’t no mountain high enough! Mountains of the world- different climates. Local History- Liverpool. Slavery Topic, History of Liverpool as an important part of the Slave Trade Local History- Liverpool. 5 New curriculum....some changes! -Numeracy- calculation methods – column methods, Roman Numerals, no calculator paper in Year 6, new calculation policy on the way! - Literacy- SPAG test, units not changing. - ICT- more in depth...changes will be gradually introduced - R.E- The Bible, Women of the Bible, Daniel, Easter, Words of wisdom- Proverbs, Islam, - DT- Victorian rooms -P.E – Football, hockey, swimming -Science- Heart & Circulatory System

6 Sex and Relationships Education following Local authority Guidance.  Friendship – What makes a good friend, honesty and trust, decision making.  Puberty – changes, hygiene.  Building good relationships.

7 PE/Swimming timetable  PE Monday and Friday afternoon.  Swimming will be in Spring term. Letter will be sent out in advance. Girls - swimsuit (not bikini), swim hat Girls - swimsuit (not bikini), swim hat Boys - swimming trunks (not shorts), swim hat Boys - swimming trunks (not shorts), swim hat  PE Kit plain navy shorts, plain white t shirt or school t-shirt, black pumps.  Earrings must be able to be taken out by the child and looked after. If child cannot take out earrings they should be taken out at home for the whole of that day.

8 Correct uniform  White shirt or blouse, (must be tucked in), St Andrew’s tie, (top button to be done up and tie to be smartly fastened), grey skirt or trousers, knee length white or grey socks, or grey tights,smart black shoes (not trainers), blue school jumper or navy blue jumper.  Jewellery – small stud earrings only, watch  Hair – long hair must be tied back, hair accessories must be small and plain and in school colours.  No nail varnish – children wearing nail varnish will be sent to office to remove it.

9 Homework  We expect all children to read their school books or a book from home on a regular basis, preferably daily.  Spellings given Monday and tested Monday.  Mental Maths tasks will be given Friday to be tested following Friday. This is either mental maths task or a times table.  Also one piece of homework, either Maths or Literacy given out on a Thursday to be handed in by following Tuesday.  Topic work may be given out as extra.

10 Discipline. Traffic Lights etc  Classroom Behaviour is managed through a traffic light system for clarity.  Green – All children start day on green and should remain here.  Amber – If children misbehave in class, either disturb others, call out etc they are given polite warning. If this is ignored and they persist in misbehaviour, they move to Amber. Misses 5 mins playtime.  Red.- If children still ignore further warnings they move to Red. Consequences miss all of following break time.  Parents of children persistently on Red will be informed so that together we can help the child.

11 Attendance and Punctuality.  Attendance at school is very important as children who are off school will be missing aspects of school work and therefore we encourage you to ensure your child attends school whenever possible.  Punctuality – Please ensure your child arrives at school before 9.00am, as children arriving after this time have to enter school through the school office and will be given a late mark.

12 Conway  Payments due.  Reminder about Phones / Games  Cameras. School discs of photos  Web site updates  Pocket money  Food great & plenty no sweets, cakes etc  Any Questions.
