2 What is a pronoun? A word that takes the place of a noun.

3 What is an Antecedent? An antecedent is the word to which a pronoun refers.

4 Personal Pronoun A personal pronoun refers to the one speaking (first person), the one spoken to (second person), or the one spoken about (third person).

6 Underline the personal pronouns in the following sentences; then, circle the antecedents and label the person above the pronoun. 1. Betsy has just written her first story. 2. The explorers sailed their ship across the Pacific. 3. Where are you going, Bob? 4. The champion skater always performed on his newest skates. 5. The woman washed her car every week. 6. The actors practiced their parts at rehearsal.

7 Revise the paragraph by replacing the repeated nouns with the appropriate personal pronouns. The boys and girls were excited about the boys’ and girls’ first day in junior high. The boys and girls got lost and wandered around the huge building. To find the boys’ and girls’ way to class, the boys and girls asked some ninth-graders to help the boys and girls.

8 Reflexive and Intensive Pronouns A reflexive pronoun refers to the subject and is necessary to the meaning of the sentence. An intensive pronoun emphasizes a noun or another pronoun and is unnecessary to the meaning of the sentence.

20 Subject or Object Pronouns A subject or object pronouns is used as the subject or object within the sentence. DOES NOT REFER TO THE SUBJECT OR OBJECT…..IT IS THE SUBJECT OR OBJECT. Could appear to be a personal pronoun, but is not.

21 Subject A subject tells us whom or what the sentence is about.

22 Object Object pronoun is a pronoun that tells who or what receives the action of the verb.

You may take your notes with you to each station. Must use a minimum of three different types of pronouns (this will include the entire activity)
