Excess Proteins In the Diet By: Jessica Munn, Sierra PB, Ian Daley, Alex Nelson

Liver and Kidney Problems High-protein diets create an abundance of nitrogen waste, that can build up to toxic levels if not excreted by the body. The liver turns nitrogen waste into urea The kidneys are responsible for excreting the urea in urine, causing these organs stress.

RDA In the U.S., women eat an average of one and a half times their RDA (recommended daily allowance) Men eat twice their RDA. These people may prefer a diet that is rich in protein, or take supplements.

Calcium Loss  High protein diets from animal sources may contribute to calcium losses in the bones.  Loss of calcium weakens the bones which can lead to a number of other health problems; osteoporosis, high blood pressure, etc.

Excess Body Fat Many protein rich foods such as whole milk, beef, cheese, and peanut butter, are also high-fat. These foods are associated with heart-health and cancer risks. Excess protein is broken down into sugars or fat. Whether the fat accompanies the protein, or is produced from it, the effects are the same.
