A.Transition from the Paleolithic Period into the Neolithic Period Humanity has two choices: (a)Continue a nomadic way of life (b)Start to create permanent settlements and pursue farming? If you were the leader of a Paleolithic clan, which choice would you support and why?

A.Considered to be a revolution (dramatic change in ideas and how people live and think) because human society is now based on: -Permanent settlements -Systematic Agriculture – Growing of food on a regular basis -Domestication of Animals – Taming of animals for human use.

9. III. Neolithic Period (10,000 B.C. – 3,000 B.C.) B. Systematic agriculture and domestication of animals lead to a surplus of food (more food than you need for basic survival). As a result, not everyone has to farm, people can focus on other things: -Advanced technology (use of copper and bronze for weapons) -Specialized occupations (people having a variety of jobs, like being an artisan, trader, merchant, etc.) -New gender roles- Men = Farming, herding Women = Home, children -Villages → Cities → Civilization (“civis” = “city”)
