Tundra The tundra is the coldest biome of them all. It is noted for its frost-molded landscapes, extremely low temperatures, little precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons.

TUNDRA Dead organic material functions as a nutrient pool. The two major nutrients are nitrogen and phosphorus, Nitrogen is created by biological fixation, and phosphorus is created by precipitation.

Zoology All arctic mammals here have a coat of fur to survive the harsh cold of the tundra. Most of these animals are scavengers of the tundra, searching for left over food and resources from another animal because the tundra doesn’t have abundant resources all year round to support the life.

Zoology Such as the arctic fox, it will prey on leftovers from bear killings and also on ground dwelling birds. Also animals such as musk ox that is a primary consumer that eats grass, moss, lichen, leaves. Birds that live here prey on small mammals such as the Norway lemming which is also in the tundra.

Zoology (Animal life)  Is there an abundant amount of resources in the tundra biome for animal life?  what kind of prey does the snowy owl prey on?  Do all of the mammals in the tundra have fur for survival.

Botany During the short-growing season in the summer, the tundra blooms with a variety of low-growing plants. Cotton grass has seeds that are moved by the wind to re grow. Leaves such as the dark red leaves can survive in this dark cold environment because there dark colors absorb more heat

Botany Others grow on surfaces of rock like moss and are composed of fungus and algae and they are called lichens. All of these plants support consumers and some have a commensalism like the seeds. The seeds feed the birds as the seed get distributed for planting.

CLIMATE Their January temperatures average around -40 F, and have reached -93 F. Most other parts of Siberia and the sub arctic sections of central Asia, Canada, and central Alaska have an average winter temperatures of about -20 F.

Geography The tundra biome is found at high latitudes together with the tundra climate. The biome looks a lot like a plain without trees and desert like.

Botany (Plant life)  What was the discussed name of plant that has commensalism with some birds?  does the growing season of plants go all year long or not?

Human Influence Winds the tundra carry harmful CFC (chloroflour carbons) to the north & the south pole.
