2. Introduction This project has as an objective to show the results of my experience as a teaching assistant in English as a Second Language-ESL classes as well as the benefits to the community. ESL Adult Education

3. Project Overview This presentation is a summary of my activities with Advanced ESL classes. I will explain how this experience improved my teaching abilities and which benefits it brought to the community.

4. Project Objectives  To develop strategies for enhancing the delivery of ESL to adults.

Community Aspects To support the NWACC community by assisting the ESL program by…  encouraging students to further their educational experiences  helping model activities  tutoring students with problems  monitoring pair and group activities  preparing materials  teaching class during the teacher’s absence Conversation class

6. Course Objectives To learn  about the methods for teaching ESL to adults  critical thinking  presentation  lesson planning  evaluation  diagnostics  teaching  approaches  methodology  activities and tasks ESL faculty and students socialize and practice their language skills

7. Technology  Power Point  Windows Media Player, Microsoft Movie Maker  Graphic Design Software  Overhead projector  TV/DVD/Video/Tape Players  Language CDs  Internet Language Sites

8. Skills  Language communication skills  instructional language  explanatory language  Teaching  multicultural awareness and respect  text and resource capabilities  Technology for the classroom  Computer use and accessing websites

9. Methods  The skills mentioned were accomplished through  participation in training such as the Arkansas Department of Workforce Education’s ESl Institute and completing a South Caroline College Pilot Project for teaching ESL on-line.  planning lessons and designing activities  participating in the class routine 4 to 8 hours weekly. Me

10. Expected Outcome  My experience has prepared me to teach English as a Foreign when I return to Brazil.  Association with non-native students has enhanced my world cultural awareness  Training will enable me to transfer my knowledge of teaching techniques, methods, and approaches to presenting ESL to future colleagues and peers  Confidence in my abilities as an educator
