3 FAIR USE GUIDELINES: Certain materials are included under the fair use exemption of the U.S. Copyright Law and have been prepared according to the educational fair use guidelines.

4 Today we will be talking about PLANTS And ANIMALS

5 OBJECTIVES  What is a living thing?  What is a plant?  What is an animal?  How are animals and plants alike?  How are animals and plants different?

6 What is a living thing?  A living thing is alive.  A living thing changes and grows.  A living thing needs food to survive.  A living thing reproduces to have offspring.

7 What is a plant?  A plant is a living thing.  Most plants make their own food by photosynthesis.  Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants that contain chlorophyll use sunlight to make their food.  A plant can not move around.  A plant reproduces.  A plant grows.

8 What is an animal?  An animal is living thing.  An animal does not make its own food.  An animal can move around.  An animal reproduces.  An animal grows.

9 How are animals and plants alike?  Animals and plants are both alive.  Animals and plants both need food to survive.  Animals and plants both reproduce.  Animals and plants both grow.

10 How are animals and plants different?  Animals can move around and plants can not move.  Some plants can make their own food, but animals can not make their own food.

11 Home Work Assignment Backyard Field Trip! With your parent or guardian search your backyard for examples of plants, animals, and non-living things. Record these on notebook paper and bring to class to share your findings. Draw pictures to illustrate your findings.
