Lesson Planning Technology Matrix CT Standard Small Group Whole Group Learning Center Individual Project Math 1.1 Understand and describe patterns and functional relationships. SmartBoard Social Studies 1.1 Demonstrate an Understanding of significant events and themes in United States History Internet-Live Web cast Language Arts 1.4 Listen to acquire information from a variety of sources. Audio books Science K.2.a. Living things have certain characteristics that distinguish them from nonliving things, including growth, movement, reproduction and response to stimuli. Webcam

After teaching a lesson about patterns, the teacher will set up the SmartBoard with shapes and will allow students to work on the SmartBoard individually to create patterns during work time. I chose this technology because it’s a fun and interactive way to teach students about patterns. The students love using the SmartBoard and it keeps them interested in learning the subject. This lesson is a good match with the content standard because it helps students understand and describe functional patterns by using technology. To assess the students understanding of patterns, the teacher will ask the student to describe the pattern he/she made. At the end of the lesson, the teacher will ask the students to use manipulatives such as blocks and various shapes to make patterns.

The teacher will join a live Web Cast about pilgrims and their “First Thanksgiving”. The entire class will watch the live Web cast to learn important facts about this important event in the United States. I chose this technology because the students can learn useful information from the internet and live Web Casts. The teacher will assess the students understanding of the material by asking the students to write a story and draw a picture about the “First Thanksgiving”. At the end of the unit, the students will be asked to “recreate” the First Thanksgiving by acting as pilgrims and having their own special feast. This lesson is a good match for the content standard because the students will be able to describe and have a good understanding about this important event in the United States after watching the live Web Cast.

The teacher can set up a learning center in the room with grade-level appropriate books for the students to listen to on tape. This lesson is a good match with the content standard because it gives students an interesting way to learn about inquiring information by using technology. To assess the students understanding of the book, the teacher will ask the students to draw the main characters, the setting and label each part. At the end of the lesson, the class will brainstorm a list of important parts from the book. The reason why I chose this technology is because students can learn how to operate different types of technology and also inquire useful information. A tape player is also an easy piece of technology for students to learn how to use.

Students will visit the New England Aquarium website to watch the live Webcam on their penguins. Students will be paired up to watch the Webcam together to make observations about the living animal. They will be asked to observe their behaviors and their movements when watching the Webcam. An ongoing assessment will occur during the lesson by having the students compile a list of interesting facts they’ve learned while watching the Webcam on penguins. At the end of the lesson, the teacher will make a KWL sheet with the students to assess their understanding. The reason why I chose this technology is because it gives the students an up-close and personal experience that they may or may not have ever had. The students will learn new things about penguins by watching and making observations from the Webcam. This lesson is a good match for the content standard because it teaches students about living things characteristics, movements and response to stimuli.
