2 Relay Frame Structure regarding Transparent ARSs in IEEE 802.16m

3  In this contribution, we address relay frame structure regarding transparent ARS (TrARS) and its coexistence with non-transparent ARS (nTrARS) for IEEE 802.16m relay system  Motivation  The current relay frame structure in section 11.4.3 of SDD [1] is applicable to non-transparent ARS scenario only.  According to the following descriptions in current SDD, we need to discuss relay frame structures regarding two scenarios; TrARSs only existence, co- existence of TrARSs & nTrARSs. 1. ARSs may operate in transparent or non-transparent mode. 2. The ABS can support the co-existence of the transparent and the non- transparent ARSs. Introduction

4 Considerations on TrARS Support in Frame Structure  DL control channel reception  Motivation  16m DL access zone comes first within a frame in the current relay frame structure (ABS, Odd-hop ARS, Even-hop ARS)  Problem  Transparent ARS & AMSs belonging to it can’t receive any DL control channel (A- Preamble, SFH) from ABS due to 16m DL Access Zone in the beginning of a frame.  Regarding TrRS, the first subframe of TrRS shall be DL Receive zone and corresponding subframe of superordinate station ARS shall be the 16m DL Transmit Zone (ABS  AMS, ABS  ARS) in order for TrRS & AMSs within it to receive DL control signal from ABS.

5 Proposed Relay Frame Structure  Case 1: [TrARS] ABS has TrARSs only as 1-hop subordinate ARSs.  In the ABS frame, DL Transmit Zone comes first than DL Access Zone. (Switching compared to current FS in SDD)  In the TrARS frame, DL Receive Zone comes first than DL Access Zone.

6 Proposed Relay Frame Structure (cont’)  Case 2: [Co-exist.] ABS has both TrARSs and nTrARSs as 1-hop subordinate ARSs.  In the ABS frame, DL Transmit Zone comes first than DL Access Zone. (Switching)  In the TrARS frame, frame structure is the same as Case 1.  In the nTrARS frame, DL Receive Zone comes first than DL Transmit Zone are located in sequence. (Switching)

7 Proposed Relay Frame Structure (cont’)  Case 3: [Co-exist.] Odd-hop nTrARS has Even-hop TrRS as a subordinate ARS.  1 st Odd-hop: nTrARS  1 st Even-hop: TrARS  In the ABS frame, frame structure is the same as the one in SDD (no change)  In the 1 st Odd-hop nTrARS frame, DL Transmit Zone comes first than DL Receive Zone (Switching)  In the 1 st Even-hop TrARS frame, frame structure is the same as Case 1.

8 Proposed Relay Frame Structure (cont’)  Case 4: [Co-exist.] Even-hop nTrARS has Odd-hop TrRS as a subordinate ARS.  1 st Odd-hop: nTrARS  1 st Even-hop: nTrARS  2 nd Odd-hop: TrARS  In the ABS frame, frame structure is the same as the one in SDD (no change)  In the 1 st Odd-hop nTrARS frame, DL Transmit Zone comes first than DL Receive Zone (Switching)  In the 1 st Even-hop nTrARS frame, DL Transmit Zone comes first than DL Receive Zone (Switching)  In the 2 nd TrARS frame, frame structure is the same as Case 1.

9 Text proposal 15.1 Relaying model 15.1.x Zone Configuration for Supporting Transparent Relay In the transparent ARS frame, the DL Receive Zone is located at the beginning of DL subframes, which is followed by the DL Access Zone, and UL zone configuration is the same as non-transparent ARS case. The DL subframes in the superordinate station of a transparent ARS, e.g., ABS or non-transparent ARS, starts with the DL Transmit Zone. ------------------------------------------- Start of the Text ------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------- End of the Text --------------------------------------------------
