7 Conversion Factors A conversion factor is a ratio that is derived from the equality of two different units and can be used to convert from one unit to the other – Example: 1 kg = 1000 g

8 Conversion Factors Other Frequently Used Units – Length 2.54 cm = 1 inch – Mass 0.4536 kg = 1 pound – Volume 1 cm 3 = 1 mL

10 Example 1 Express 4 km in meters – Given: 4 km – Find: meters (m) – Plan (conversion factor): 1 km = 1000 m – Solve: 4 km x 1000 m = 4000 m 1 km
