2 WARM UP FOR 3/30/2015 Make a circle with the desks. How would you describe the highlights from your break in 30 seconds or less? Turn in your P-CAT of Friar Lawrence’s speech to Romeo in the bin for your class period.

3 Write your customized Shakespearean insult underneath your name on your Records Journal!

4 Romeo and Juliet Review Game In our circle, you are going to ask a question about Romeo and Juliet to the circle. Then, say a person’s name and toss them the egg. The person must answer your question or pass to another person but that person then has to receive the egg after to answer the next person’s questions. Example: STUDENT #1: “Who marries Romeo and Juliet?”STUDENT #1: “Who marries Romeo and Juliet?” STUDENT #2: “Friar Lawrence. Who does Tybalt kill?”STUDENT #2: “Friar Lawrence. Who does Tybalt kill?” STUDENT #3: “Mercutio. Who does Lord Capulet want Juliet to marry?”STUDENT #3: “Mercutio. Who does Lord Capulet want Juliet to marry?” …and so on!

7 Close Reading of Act III.v.1-43 After Romeo and Juliet’s night together, they get into their first argument in the morning. However, their argument is packed with metaphor and imagery. You will be creating a Dual Point of View Pamphlet to analyze this scene on a blank sheet of paper. HOW? Fold a blank sheet of paper in half. One side is Romeo’s POV and the other is Juliet’s POV on the morning. On the front, draw the imagery in the lines through symbolism and visual representation. Be creative! On the back, paraphrase what each character is saying about their perspective. Your paraphrase should reveal an analysis of the character’s speech.

9 Gallery Walk Put your Dual Point of View Pamphlet for III.v.1-43 on your desk imagery side up. We are going to participate in a Gallery Walk to admire our classmates’ work. write at least three commentsAs you walk around to look at and read your classmates’ paraphrases, you must write at least three comments on the back with the paraphrase. For each comment, write one thing that the writer/artist did well and one thing that they could do or think about it regard to the reading passage. Sign your comments with your first name. You are receiving credit for your feedback and can lose points for ineffective feedback on your own pamphlet.

14 Warm Up for 4/1/2015 Select one of the questions below to analyze the events of Act III in a timed writing. Your response should be a paragraph of at least 5-7 sentences. Use at least one direct quote from the play EMBEDDED in your paragraph with an in-text parenthetical citation. You may not use 2 nd person in your paragraph. Should the Capulets have pressured Juliet to marry Paris? Is Lord Capulet within his rights as a father to demand Juliet to marry Paris or he will disown her? Is Juliet obliged by her parents’ wishes because they know best? Why does Juliet want to resolve to suicide after her discussion with her father? Why does Shakespeare depict two teenagers with suicidal thoughts? Do you think this is an accurate portrayal of young love? You have 15 minutes of silent writing time to complete this paragraph.
