2 STATE FLAG Alabama’s state flag was authorized on February 16, 1895. From March 4, 1861 general James H’s occupation of Montgomery in April 1865. The flag was supposed to be crimson.

3 State Pledge The Alabama State Pledge was created on August 13,1999. The state “Flag of Alabama I salute thee. To thee I pledge my allegiance, my service, and my life.’’ By Joe McMillan. 4 ALABAMA STATE SONG On March 3, 1931 Mrs. Edna Gussen She adopted the music And the words to the state song.

5 State Flower  The State Flower is a Camellia.  From the ancient temple gardens of China and Japan.  Legends of mythology and romance, fancy and fiction have made the camellia seem more expensive, more delicate and difficult to grow than it really is.

6 Alabama State Tree Alabama State Tree The name of the state tree is the Southern longleaf pine. The cones on the tree are about seven inches long. The longleaf pine grows as high as 150 feet high.

7 State Bird  The state bird of Alabama is the Yellowhammer.  The scientific name of the Yellowhammer is Picus Auratus. Picus Auratus.  Raccoon and Black Snakes are the Enemy of the Yellowhammer.  The Yellowhammer eats crickets and worms.

8 Montgomery Montgomery is Alabama’s state capital. In 1847 Alabama’s legislature Held it’s first meeting in the new capital in Montgomery. Two years later, it was destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt on its original foundation. It is in the coastal plain region. Montgomery is very big!

9 The Judicial Branch  The judicial branch is Alabama’s court system. Alabamians elected justices and judges. To be elected you have to be 18 years or older, and have a license. Alabama’s supreme court decides whether laws agree with the state constitution.

10 Legislative Branch $ The Legislative Branch writes the bills. $ There are two groups in the Legislative Branch are the senate and representatives. $ The constitution got started in 1787.

11 The Executive Branch  In the Executive Branch are the offices of President, in the Federal Government, and the governor in the state.  In Article II of the Constitution, the president's qualifications and powers are detailed.  In order to be considered for the office, a presidential candidate must be at least 35 years old.

12 GEORGE C. WALLACE He won a medal in high school. He went to law school in 1937. His father died in 1937 also. He was a taxi driver, a cook, and in the Air Force.

13 Harold Guy Hunt  Harold Guy Hunt was born on June 17,1933,at holly pond, Alabama, in Cullman county.  He graduated from Holly pond high school in 1950.  Hunt was defeated by Fob James in the 1978 governor’s race.  Governor Hunt died on January 30,2009.

14 Forest fob james  Governor James was re-elected governor on November,8,1994.  The governor is the only Alabamian who first was elected governor as a Democrat (1978).

15 Don Siegleman  He was governor from 1999-2003. He was the 51 st governor. He was noted for education. He graduated from the University of Alabama.

16 Bob Riley State Governor  Bob riley was 20 when he graduated with a degree in business administration.  He sold eggs to make money when he was 17.  Bob also got married to his high school sweetheart.  He is the current and 52 nd Governor.
