6  Expected levels that your child should reach at age 5, usually the end of the reception year; these expectations are called the “Early Learning Goals (ELGs)”  Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.  School Trips

8 This week the teachers focus is reading.  By Friday you will receive 2 books to read at home. These may include:  Phonics books  Alien Adventure stories  Non-fiction books  Poetry books  Traditional Tales Inside the front and back cover there are ideas to help you support you child while reading this book. It suggests key questions, sounds and words to practise. It also gives you some follow up activities you can complete with your child.  Every fortnight they will also bring home a book that they have chosen from the library corner.  Please ensure you read daily with your child. We will check the reading record every day. Once a week an adult will comment or add a sticker in their reading record.

9  Each day the children will have a timetable reading session.  They will read with an adult using books called ‘Project X’  They will also complete a range of independent reading activities such as role play, use of puppets, phonics games, independent reading, drawing or writing activities which link to a book.  Phonics will be taught separately daily.  Phonics curriculum evening - 5.30pm – 6.30pm on Thursday 15 th October.
