13 ICEA has signed on with ACNM on the Healthy Birth Initiative. I am now a member of the ACNM HPI task force and am helping to get the information distributed and available to doulas, childbirth educators and lactation consultants. Other organizations we have looked at to support and to form collaboration include: The White Ribbon Alliance, World Organization Perinatal Education Associations ( OMAEP), Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA), Baby Friendly USA, 1000 Days Project, AIMS Ireland, Global Perinatal Initiative, Academy of Women’s Obstetrical Neonatal Nurses (AWOHNN), Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health (APPPAH). I have responded to the Similac media campaign negatively portrayed breastfeeding women and moms in general. Currently working on a response to the negative article on contaminants in breastmilk. I have worked on group projects to help with the ICEA vendor booth and to help create a speakers bureau. I will continue to review organizations for collaboration and be ready to respond to misinformation in the media.

30  Myra represents ICEA at the USDA Breastfeeding Promotion Consortium. The group meets in Washington, DC twice yearly. We are a forum for dialogue between professional health organizations, breastfeeding advocacy groups and Federal agencies to promote, support, and protect breastfeeding  Myra served on the Advisory Committee on Community Support for Breastfeeding, which convened by the USBC in 2013-2014 as part of the Best Fed Beginnings project. January 2015 we discussed opportunities and options to continue to convene this Committee, perhaps with a slightly different name/format, beyond the end of the Best Fed Beginnings initiative this past spring. I am pleased to report that we have been able to carry on the conversation through the USBC’s new “Constellation Mode” as the “Continuity of Care” topic. I will continue to represent ICEA at USBC “Continuity of Care” conversation meetings.  Myra is a member of the USBC Formula Marketing conversation. She had the pleasure of a one on one meeting with Eva Seidelman, Researcher Commercial Alert, PublicCitizen.
