3 Directions – Guess the Definition You will be given two definitions for each word. One will be the true definition, and one will be a phony definition. Your job will be to choose the definition that you think is correct. You have a white board… If you think Choice 1 is correct, write a number one on the white board If you think Choice 2 is correct, write a number two on the white board

4 speckled Choice 1 A glitter- like shine which occurs at night when you look at lights. Choice 2 Marked with many small spots.

5 speckled Part of Speech: ADJ Definition: Marked with many small spots. Example: A speckled egg

6 romping Choice 1 Playing in a rough, energetic way; to rush and tumble. Choice 2 A type of dance in which two people dance gracefully across the floor.

7 romping Part of Speech: Verb Definition: Playing in a rough, energetic way; to rush and tumble Example: romping dogs

8 nub Choice 1 Lump or small piece Choice 2 To push someone out of the way

9 nub Part of Speech: Noun Definition: A lump or small piece Example: A pencil that has been sharpened to a nub

10 lunging Choice 1 Laying out in the sun Choice 2 Moving suddenly forward; thrust

11 lunging Part of Speech: Verb Definition: moving suddenly forward, thrust Example: A football player lunging to catch the ball

12 slung Choice 1 To throw, cast, or fling. Choice 2 To stand in a relaxed position, to lean against something.

13 slung Part of Speech: Verb Definition: to throw, cast, fling Example: A slingshot is used to throw things such as rocks.

14 rowdy Choice 1 Messy, dirty, unclean. Choice 2 Rough, disorderly, quarrelsome.

15 rowdy Part of Speech: ADJ Definition: rough, disorderly, quarrelsome. Example: The children in this picture are rowdy.

16 Now that you have seen the words and definitions… At your tables you will find a plastic bag for each person Inside the bag you will find our vocabulary words, and their definitions. You will also find some phony definitions- so be careful! Match the word with its definition Glue the words/definitions into your journal. After you glue each word and definition draw a picture to represent the word so you can remember it!
