What is this Achievement Standard all about? The use of interpersonal skills within team and group settings, and looking at the effect they have on the function of your team

By the end of the term… All of you: Would have been given many opportunities to participate in a variety of team sports and activities All of you: Will be able to demonstrate a variety of interpersonal skills (at different levels) All of you: Will be able to describe the effects of using different interpersonal skills has on the your group/team

Consistently demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in a group or tem situation Evaluate the effects the use of interpersonal skills had on the functioning of the group or team.

So what are interpersonal skills? MIX UP! Using the cards given to you, find your group Choose a leader to come and collect paper and pens from the front of the room

Interpersonal skills Interpersonal means between people. So skills that a person uses to work with others in a group or team Leadership Effective communication Personal and Social responsibility Cooperation Giving and receiving feedback Supporting and encouraging others Inclusiveness Demonstrating fair play Problem solving Negotiation Mediation Conflict resolution

Social Responsibility What is social responsibility? Social responsibility= a person’s responsibility to a group or team = a person’s ability to be a good example and care for others needs in their group

Shows inner strength ( the ability to resist peer pressure and step up as a leader ). Makes sure all players in the group have equal opportunity to be involved. Acknowledges other teams’ skills or efforts. Proactively applies fair play/ honest rules. Happily accepts others as part of the group. 3Self-Direction On-Task independence (you can do it without the teacher standing over you). Sets goals and self-standards. Interpersonal Skills There are 3 main interpersonal skills we will be focusing on this term – Personal effort and involvement in a team – Playing by the rules and ‘fair play’ – Interaction and encouragement of others

Personal effort and involvement in team Your involvement in a team or group The effort you put into participating in games and group/classroom discussions

Playing by the rules and fair play “Play hard but play fair” – Hillary Commission Fair play is important as it promotes positive attitudes – It allows everyone to enjoy their sport – Encourages everyone to accept decisions of officials positively – It requires an individual to maintain self-discipline

Fair play Means… – Respect for: your team mates, the opposition, the officials and the game – Staying cool: in all situations – Keeping your dignity: When winning or loosing,

Interaction and encouragement of others Supporting others when the participate Giving them feedback about performance – Constructive criticism Encouraging others – e.g. “great job”, “good defence”, “keep it up!”
