5  Text report is spoken form (monolog). It functions to describe the way things are, with reference to arrange of natural, man-made, and social phenomena's in our environments.  In a monolog you can some fillers, such as “well…”, “er…you know”, “I’ll tell you something”, “listen…”, “let me tell you what”, etc.  The structure of the text, consist of 1. General Classification 2. Description

6 SHARKS Sharks are the most fearsome predatory fish of the sea. There are 375 species of sharks. They live mostly in warm seas. Their torpedo shaped bodies make them very fast swimmers. Sharks have a skeleton make of rubbery cartilage. Most of kinds of fish have bony skeletons. The world biggest fish is the whales sharks. It can grow well to over 12 meters long. Unlike other sharks, the whale sharks and the basking sharks mostly eat planktons and are completely harmless. Shark’s main weapons are its teeth. They are powerful enough to bite through a steel plate. They killing machine of the sharks world is the great while sharks. This sharks is responsible for most attack on humans. Up to 21 people die from recorded sharks attack each year. Just be careful when you swim in the sea.

7 The text is written report. The purpose of the text is to describe things the way they are. A report text is a logical sequences of facts that are stated without any personal involvement (personal opinions) from the writer. The significant features of a report Focus on generic participants : such sharks Use simple present tense No temporal sequence. E.g.. At first, and then, after that and finally. Use technical vocabulary or scientific terms. E.g.. Rubbery, cartilage, skeleton Use verbs being and having (are, is, have/has), rather then action verbs : sell buy use Use a descriptive language : for describing color, shapes, size

9  Gerund is a verb in the ing form (verb + -ing) which function as a noun

10  Gerund is us as subject of the sentence Reading for my sister is pleasure Writing needs our creativity As the subject, the gerund may have its own object Breaking his promise was his greatest mistake Speaking English with friends can improve your English

11 The gerund can also be used as the direct object of a sentence after these verbs  Allow – detest – keep – prevent – avoid –enjoy  Like – remember – bear – escape – love  Resent – begin – finish – miss – risk etc E.g. : The girl love cooking
