4 Overview Rwanda statistical system: supply side Semi-autonomous National Institute of Statistics established in 2005 Production of key statistics: National Accounts, CPI Key surveys EICV: every 5 years DHS: every 5 years, with interim after 3 Production of administrative data in Education, Health (but w/o QA by NISR) 2009: Development of National Strategy for the Development of Statistics

5 Overview Rwanda statistical system: demand side EDPRS Annual Progress Report: significant traction, but overshadowed by separate AAP process Large proportion of budget support in total aid flows - general interest in poverty data and CPAF Introduction of imihigo (performance contracts at district level)

6 Donor support First phase: Getting the institution on its feet (NISR strategic plan – focus on core data production activities) Second phase: National Strategy for the Development of Statistics, supported by NISR managed basket fund (DfID, EC, WB (SRF))
