2 Helen was born June 27,1880. She was born in a small town called Iuscumbia,Alabama on an estate called Ivy Green.

3 Helens mothers name was Kate Adams Keller. Helens fathers was Colonel Arthur Keller. Her father was an editor of the local paper called “ The North Alabamian.

5 When Helen was 19 months old she became very ill and lost her ability to see and hear. Learning was very hard for Helen because of her deafness no one could get though to her, and she could not communicate. with other people. Rules and lessons made no sense to her. So she got called the wild child. Helen’s mother had heard about the Perkins School for the blind in Boston from Alexander Graham Bell. Helen’s mom called the school for a teacher for Helen. So the school sent their star teacher Anne Sullivan.

6 Anne arrived March 3, 1887.The day that Anne came Helens life changed..Anne had to figure out a way to make Helen understand words and the meaning of them. She began teaching letters to Helen by singing in to Helens palm. Just than one month later everything clicked. Anne held Helen’s hand under a pump while singing W-A-T-E-R into her palm. Helens whole face lit up. The world came to life in one moment. That day Helen learned 30 words. Now Helen was too busy to be a wild child, and her brainpower shone though. Quickly she learned words and then sentences. Soon she was able to communicate by singing the manual alphabet. Helen was not was not satisfied by singing by herself. She wanted write. In addition to learning to write in braille, Helen placed a ruler on the page as a guide and drew very square block letters. In 1888 Helen left home for the first time. Helen and Anne went to the Perkins School for the blind as a guest of the director of Michael. Helen became in overnight celebrity. However her friendship with Anagnos Suffered when she was accused of plagiarism ( which means copying someone else’s writing and calling it your own). Helen had written a story entitle ‘The Frost King” it was for Anagno’s birthday. It was kind of like a story Helen had heard once long be for and perhaps she has remembered some parts of it without realizing it. She spent most of her time outside.

8 Anne taught her how to smell, touch, and to experience nature. She wanted her to be curious ask questions, and to discover the world around her. For the rest of her life, Helen loved to smell and touch flowers, and to feel the wind on her face. She was curious about everything. When Helen was 13 her and Anne went to New York City. Helen attended the Wright-Humason school for the deaf. She was the only student that was blind and deaf. In class Anne read everything and signed what she read in to Helens hand. Helen devoured information and became able to communicate with other adults and children. She was even learning how to speak. Anne had taught her many things outside of her classroom. 9 Helen learned how to speak. In 1896, Helen went to the cambridge school for young ladies, run by Arthur Gilman. Attending his school helped Helen prepare for her college entrance exminations. She was admitted to Radcliffe college in 1899. Radcliffe was the sister college to Harvard University, which at the time did not allow women to attend.

10 Helen might have been disable but now she can do a lot.
