2 Early Years She was born on June 27,1880
She was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama When she was 19 months old she got scarlet fever which left her with blind and deaf By the time Helen was 7 she came up with “home signs” to talk to her family When Helen was 7 she was transferred to doctors such as Alexander Gram Bell and J. Julian Chisolm Young Helen young Helen Keller

3 Meeting Annie (TEACHER)
On March 3, 1887 Annie met Helen for the first time When Helen first met Annie Helen thought it was her mother so she hugged her, but quickly realized it wasn’t and started to kick and scream. Now Annie was wondering if she would be able to teach this new child To try and find out more about the stranger Helen helped Annie unpack Helen and Annie

4 First Sign Of Progress So far in Helen’s life she had not made much progress ON April 5, 1887 Helen first understood that everything had a name and that everything had a meaning At the age of 7 Helen finally could communicate with Annie/ Teacher After that, by the end of the day Helen had learned 30 new words The water pump where Helen first made the miracle of saying water.

5 Word Gets Out About Helen
When Helen turned 8 she Annie was going to take her to Perkins (a deaf and blind school), but there trip was postponed because the president wanted to see them Like many people the president was fascinated to know about Helen When Helen finally got to Perkins her speech (Which was translated by Annie) was written in the news paper for the world to see Helen was known around the world as the miracle child Helen Keller

6 Older Helen When Helen was older she went to a school to prepare her for collage called Cambridge School Later, she went to Radcliffe (the collage) Helen was always working and some thought that Helen should be taken away from Annie so she can calm down In 1904 Helen graduated with honors from Radcliffe News papers around the world reported the event Helen and her degree Helen in her gown + cap

7 Helen Travels As An Adult
In 1951 Helen had visited South Africa The following year in 1952 she went to five countries in the middle east In 1953 she toured Latin America Then in 1955 she visited India and Japan Helen meets the president Helen and Alexander Graham Bell
